SERVICE:5 JULY 2020

Discussion Questions (On your own, with a friend, or with your house group)
Take some time this week to invite the Spirit to help you consider:

  • In what areas of your life would you like to have greater self-control? Spend some time praying about this and submitting to the Lord for help.
  • How might you support someone who said they couldn’t memorise Scripture? Reflect on examples from your own life when this skill has become important.
  • Looking back over the other eight aspects of the fruit of the Spirit, where are you being prompted to do your part in ‘cultivating the ground’? Pray about how to grow in this area and make a commitment to God to partner with the Spirit.

Discussion Questions (On your own, with a friend, or with your house group)
Take some time this week to invite the Spirit to help you consider:

  • Do you agree that society at large does not value gentleness? Why do you think that is so?
  • Can you think of someone at your church/in life who embodies gentleness? What are the qualities they exhibit which make you think like this?
  • Are there any particular circumstances where you find it hard to be gentle? In this, ask God to help you in this area in coming days so that “your gentleness (will) be evident to all” (Phil 4:5).

Discussion Questions (On your own, with a friend, or with your house group)
Take some time this week to invite the Spirit to help you consider:

  • The question is asked in Luke 18:8 if Jesus will find faith on the earth when He returns. This week, think about that question in your own life—if Jesus retuned before the end of this talk…the end of today…tomorrow— would He find faith in you? Is your faith in Him? If not, then ask Him to give you saving faith, sustaining faith and hopeful faith.  The Bible tells us that He is the author and finisher of our faith, He wants to help you.
  • The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that faith comes by hearing the word of God. This week read or listen to the chapter of faith found in Hebrews 11 and ask God to give you ears to hear His word through these men and women of faith, to encourage you, to challenge you and birth faith in you.
  • Finally, spend time this week reflecting on the different areas of your life—home, work, church and play—and ask the Holy Spirit to show you how you might be being unfaithful so that you can repent and let the Holy Spirit produce faith there. Also consider any areas where you can thank Him for producing faithfulness.

Discussion Questions (On your own, with a friend, or with your house group)
Take some time this week to invite the Spirit to help you consider:

  • Are there areas in your work or home life or friendships where you need the Spirit to help you be more consistent, transparent and true?
  • What is blocking goodness from working and being lived out in your life?
  • Think over recent weeks and discern if there’s been specific moments you can recognise when you’ve known what was right but chosen not to follow through? Take time to repent of your lack of action and ask God to help you into the future.

Discussion Questions (On your own, with a friend, or with your house group)
Take some time this week to invite the Spirit to help you consider:

  • If we saw each person we met as Christ, what would we do for them? And if we were really being Christlike to each person, how might we react differently?
  • Perhaps, in thinking on this topic, some opportunities come to mind you’ve missed or perhaps you’re resentful of this challenge. Upon reflection, is there a need to repent and ask for God’s forgiveness and help in growing in this area, especially if it involves people we struggle with?
  • Finally, what does kindness beyond expectation (as the fruit of the spirit) look like in practise in your daily life?
